What
is Thioguard®?
THIOGUARD® is a gentle, bio-receptive mineral nutrient and alkalinity
source that gently reduces both corrosion and odor throughout
sanitary sewer systems while enhancing many treatment plant processes.
THIOGUARD® offers benefits at every point in the wastewater system. When
added directly to wastewater, it slowly dissolves to buffer the pH of
the water, thus significantly decreasing the amount of hydrogen sulfide
(H2S) produced and reducing odors. When used as a protective
spray on concrete sewer crown and manhole surfaces, THIOGUARD® efficiently
neutralizes the corrosive effects of sulfuric acid and Thiobacillus bacteria
that attack concrete. THIOGUARD® protection slows the aggression of these
corrosives and result in dramatic savings in sewer line replacement and
rehabilitation.
In fact, THIOGUARD®'s effectiveness is unsurpassed. Not only does it
control odors by reducing both dissolved sulfide production and H2S
(headspace) gas, it also offers additional benefits as well. For example,
the introduction of H2S does not lead to the formation of
additional unwanted sludge, as often happens with lime and iron salts.
